Translating from Irish as “Eating and Place”, Ithe ‘gus Áit is a set of 14 unique utensils that are inspired by the landscape of Ireland, and its effect on culinary traditions.
Forged from contrasting laminated steels, the patterns in blades the echo the drama and energy of the Atlantic coast, and illustrate the different way in which each knife was made. The handles are crafted from indigenous Irish materials, including salvaged Yew, ancient Bog Oak, and stabilized peat, highlighted with colourful stripes of Ocean plastic gathered along the beaches of the west.
Unique to this collection, each blade features an individual set of map coordinates, relating to where one of the materials used in the handle was found.
Over time and with use, the high-carbon steel blades develop a beautiful patina, telling the story of their relationship with the person using them.
Ithe ‘gus Áit was exhibited at Collect Art Fair, London, from the 26th of February - 2nd of March, 2025.
